ferry from satellite

This is probably not remarkable enough for Google Sightseeing, but the satellite used to photograph the Earth for Google Maps caught a ferry en route from Bainbridge to Seattle. The best thing about the satellite photo is an astounding depiction of the wake caused by the ferry. An enormous arc is left behind the ferry. Multitudes of ribs coming off of that let you sympathize with those whiny Wing Pointers (no offense is intended to any individual Wing Pointer). A sight worth seeing. Also, a buoy is visible.

Discussion question: Is the smaller line of wake to the ferry’s port side (our right) a Coast Guard escort?

This has long been my favorite headline ever: Baldness hope as birds get teeth.

No, I don’t really understand it, but there’s a creepily fascinating article regarding simulated deaths and inventions that invent. A suggested read. (via Futurismic)

I challenge you to find practical utility. Oh, that’s right — the awe factor is practical.

To quote or paraphrase or something, what is he doing in there?

Today, a guy with a basket of purchases let me in front of him in the grocery store line because I only had two. People still do that. Faith in humanity restored.

Yes. Yes, I am.

Psychologists have shown that reading to kids gives them a leg up in the scholastic and working worlds. Then again, I’m sure they hadn’t seen Cotton Candy Autopsy, hm? Never burn a clown. — via BoingBoing

Enough of that. I’ll be in the nerd box.

I’ve finally seen the anti-Dean ad everybody’s talking about.

Dean should take his tax-hiking, government-expanding, latte-drinking, sushi-eating, Volvo-driving, New York Times-reading, body-piercing, Hollywood-loving left-wing freak show back to Vermont — where it belongs.

Also, splendiferous critique thereof.

FactCheck.org is the coolest site that I’ve found in a while. It has dedicated itself to back-checking and verifying the facts used in political propaganda. Everything is meticulously documented and bibliographied.

Since I haven’t found an RSS feed, I’ve written a quick Perl screen-scraper. Enjoy.

… this is it.

This is a quick note for those of you who are not reading this weblog because you are a Mac nerd, but are still for some reason reading this weblog.

Update:

Poetry. Really, really bad poetry.

Admittedly, nearly every blog that I read outside of personal friends’ is a tech-oriented blog. However, in the interest of self-enlightenment, I’ve begun to read SCOTUSBlog (which I interpret as Supreme Court of the United States Blog), which is basically quite mundane but very effective coverage of the Supreme Court. Some (one?) of you will know where I’m coming from — this sort of thing is interesting, important, and awkwardly underreported. I’m just afraid I’ll miss something, really.
